Waste Oil Tanks
Double Walled Waste Oil Storage Tanks
Unity Fuel Solutions’ Waste Oil tanks are a self-contained, double walled, aboveground oil storage tank – from 1,000 to 107,400 litres.
What is Waste Oil?
Used oil is Canada’s single largest source of potentially hazardous material if not managed properly. Any oil, crude or synthetic that has been contaminated with physical and/or chemical impurities. Contamination from being used as lubricants, hydraulic fluids, heat transfer fluids, buoyants and other similar purposes.
For more information on specific oils and what is defined as a ‘Used Oil’ refer to the Canadian Environmental Protection Agency (CEPA) website.
Storing Waste Oil: The Challenges
Recycling of used oil or waste oil is not only good for the environment but makes good business sense. Oil can be used over and over again. Sometimes in the same form or re-purposed for different applications. For example, used motor oil can be refined and sold as motor oil again or reprocessed into furnace fuel oil. In the US, an estimated 380 million gallons of used oil are recycled each year.
A critical part of the recycling process is ensuring used oil is stored in accordance with the CEPA’s used oil management standards. Get it wrong and the Canadian Environmental Protection Agency (CEPA) could impose huge fines, restrictions and even close your business down.
NOTE: Provincial regulations governing the management of used oil might be stricter than CEPA’s so contact your provincial or local environmental agency to determine your best course of action.
Drums are a traditional form of oil storage, both new and used but come with significant risk, particularly in extreme weather conditions.
Apart from being a less space-efficient option, hot summer temperatures can make leaks more likely, particularly if the drums are exposed to the weather.
As it rains, water can be trapped on top of the barrels and submerge the bungs. As the drum heats and cools, air is exchanged between the air space above the waste oil and the atmosphere.
This can result in water that is sitting on top of the bungs being pulled into the oil, ultimately settling at the bottom of the barrel and raising the overall fluid level. As the process continues and more water is accumulated, the barrel can become deformed and push oil out of the bungs, causing a potentially harmful and expensive spill.
Waste Oil Storage Containers: A Modern Day Solution
Aboveground double wall tanks are a modern day solution for the safe storage and transfer of used waste oil. A modern day solution that complies with the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment (CCME) used oil management standards.
Our aboveground waste oil tanks are manufactured using a double-walled construction, essentially a tank within a tank.
UNITY WASTE OIL TANKS REMOVE THE NEED FOR TRADITIONAL BUND WALL CONSTRUCTION AND CONTAINMENT
This integral secondary containment system creates an internal self-bunded solution and ensures traditional bund wall containment areas are no longer required.
WASTE OIL Double-Walled Tank = Mild Steel SFL Primary Tank + interstitial space + Secondary Mild Steel Outer Tank. This complies with all secondary containment tank requirements for aboveground storage tanks.
OUR WASTE OIL TANKS COMPLY WITH ALL STATE AND FEDERAL EPA GUIDELINES AND MANAGEMENT STANDARDS FOR THE SAFE STORAGE OF USED OIL
EVERY UNITY FUEL SOLUTIONS STORAGE TANK COMES WITH COMPLETE PEACE-OF-MIND…
